Last weekend game fishing members of MBGLAC were rewarded with lovely yellowfin taken some 26 nautical miles off Merimbula. Congratulations to Ross Cooper of Wolumla who boated a 52.5Kg fish on Seamode captained by Paul Jones of Merimbula. Congratulations also to Nigel Hack of Bournda, captain of White knight, who boated a 32.5Kg yellowfin, fishing by himself. In the same area other vessels took large albacore tuna up to 15kg.

With the weather remaining fair, anglers are reporting good snapper off the usual reefs; Long Point, Haycock, Lennards and Boyds Tower. Port Jackson sharks are not uncommon in the snapper grounds and luckily chinamen leatherjackets are down to reasonable numbers. Ocean flathead are best in the deeper waters off Tura Headland, try 20-22 fathoms.

In the estuaries there remain some good dusky flathead, particularly at Mogareeka since the Bega River closed. Intrepid anglers are gathering again to seek out the plus one metre duskys! Tailor are very active in the Merimbula Top Lake and a few bream and trevally remain on the bite. Australian salmon remain in the lower reaches of the Pambula Lake.
