Ban Pair Trawling

We seek your support to ban twin trawling as a method for fishing of SPF (small pelagic fish) in Australian waters.

The Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) has determined mid-water pair trawling as an approved fishing method in the Small Pelagic Fishery (SPF) until October 2018, subject to conditions and review.  The conditions are inconsequential and even allow for night trawling.
The SPF covers some of Australia’s most iconic recreational fishing grounds.
What happens in the fishery can have impacts on Australia’s recreational fishers and tourism now and for the future.
In its Media Release of 15 April 2016 the Australian Recreational Fishing Foundation (ARFF), the national organisation representing the interests of Australia’s recreational fishing community called for the Federal Government to implement an immediate moratorium on commercial fishing within the small pelagic fishery (SPF).
